The great things about the Internet

I was just thinking of this while folding my clothes Hee hee. Here are a couple of things I came up with:

  1. Help and advice are readily available, provided you look for it. And most of the time, people don’t even think about charging you.
  2. A sense of belonging. This is especially true in a great forum such as BigBlueBall, where I’ve met lots of nice folks. Furthermore, with Instant Messaging such as Windows Live Messenger, you’re never alone.
  3. International brotherhood. Yeah, I just coined this up. Tied in with #1, because while you can search for help and advice, you can also contribute ideas and solutions. It’s an international win-win situation.
  4. Opportunities. Granted, there are thousands of scams on the web, but there are also genuine opportunities. This is something I am really looking into!

The net can be a very deceiving place at times, but a little vigilance goes a long way. If something “feels” too good to be true (like all those international winning lottery tickets I get every day) it probably is. And if you’re conversing with someone and somthing feels off - trust your instincts.

That aside, I agree with you completely. The internet provides so much - and much of it for free! Even the things you buy can be easily reasearched for comments from others who have been in your shoes (…say webhosting experiences?? LOL)

With a little diligence you can avoide the scams, or the substandards and come up with some of the best. It’s no different than buying something in a store really. You never can be 100% sure of the quality of anything. It’s sad that people “blame” the internet in such cases - it’s just the nature of business & marketing really.

The net opens up a world of learning, friendships, free knowledge or products you might never have had without it. All in all, as long as you exercise a bit of common sense, it’s one of the most wonderful resources we have today!

Wonderful comments, Doris. Thank you. Psst…you could write a book there about the Internet, you know. ;)
